Roger and Amy were married July 2006. Abby was born Jan. 2007. We were sealed as a family in the Manti, Utah temple on Nov. 2007. Kolob was born Feb. 2009. Ammon was born March 2011! Emma was born April 2013!
So Roger and I have been called to teach a class in church and today in one of the stories in the lesson it was "a time of war" and I asked, "Do you all know what war means?" And everyone in the class says, "I do! I do!" and the majority of the class said,"My daddy has gone to war!" and then one girl said, "My friend's daddy went to war and he died, but I know that her daddy is in heaven now.".... Oh yeah, did I forget to mention, we teach 4 and 5 year old kids?
So Amy decided our date nights (or complete lack of them) could use a little pick-me-up. So she came up with a crazy idea (aren't all her ideas crazy?). The deal was, if we had fun then we had to do a date night every week, and we'd have to trade off who planned the date every other weekend, and they have to be cheap and wacky.
Here's date night #1...
The invitation...
First, we had to wait for sun down, so we played some card games to pass the time...
And ate our first snack... I did one that wouldn't give away the theme for the night...
You know... For the exploding rocks in space... I'm pretty sure there are exploding rocks in space...??
Then once it started getting dark out I played this to help Roger guess what the nights theme was...
Ok, corny, I know... But I was trying to find anything and everything space related since we would be laying on the trampoline looking at the stars!
So after the date night's theme song was played we went onto the rest of the night's activities...
I had candles at the back door arranged in a star shape. There were 5 candles for each of us, and so we took turns telling each other something that we loved about each other (harder than you'd think) and then blowing out a candle.
Then we went out to the tramp that I had decorated previously with glow in the dark stars (some of that glow in the dark glue stuff that we had in our craft cupboard).
And had our other snacks...
Galaxy Rolls... You know, because the white swirls look like galaxies... Haha!
Star shaped fruit roll-ups!
Then I pulled out... The glow sticks!
I told him we had to make something (creative & clean, cause I know how men's minds work) for each other to wear...
I made Roger... A visor!! Haha!
He made me glasses! Haha!
Then we laid on the tramp covered in glowing stars and looked at the few stars we could see on our bright Air Force Base for a second... Then we moved onto...
Me making Roger some antenna and laughing at him... And since we started the night with the Star Wars theme song, we finished the night with a light saber (glow stick) fight.

The conclusion... It was a night of crazy fun and we will continue doing it every weekend while Roger is here... His turn to plan the day this Saturday! And the total of this date was $6 for 3 packs of pop rocks, 12 galaxy rolls, 6 star roll-ups, 10 glow sticks, and 15 teacups candles... Thank you Dollar Tree store...
The kids and I have been going to the base Library's summer reading program once a week to help give us something to do while daddy sleeps (He has been working 72+ hours a week. All night long and has to sleep all day.)
Story time has been so fun! First the librarian reads some stories, then we do a craft, and then they get their prize (for having stories read to them every night) and there is even a library dog (the librarian brings her sheep dog to story time). This years theme is 'A mid-summer knight's dream'. They have done things about dragons, kings and queens, princes and princesses, and knights!
They made crowns and their reading prize was a ball with swirly liquid that lights up!
Today Roger is going in for his pre-deployment reaction test and it's reminded me how quickly time is going by and it's coming up... Yikes. Time can just stop now if it would like... Looking at Abby's school calendar I was realizing all the fun "firsts" that Abby will be having that Roger will be missing... Not to mention her 5th birthday, Kole's 3rd birthday, and Ammon's 1st birthday. And Ammon's first Christmas and all those other fun things! I think I've found a way to include him as much as possible though. I'm just hoping the kids and I survive while he's gone... I'm sure we will, but I just don't know HOW well we'll survive! We might be eating cereal for every meal. ;)
Well, we got Abby all registered for Preschool! We are really excited! Then Amy looked at the school calendar and saw that Abby will be getting school pictures done! Our little Abby! Getting her first school pictures!? Where in the world has the time gone!? Crazy! She also gets to go on some fun field trips this year! We've done the school shopping and are all ready and stoked!
The kids wearing their new backpacks! Of course Kole had to get one too! Can you believe how fancy they are making backpacks now days? Abby's Tinkerbell backpack has little green frills and Kole's McQueen backpack is a vest!
